| One of the most popular faces in the world of antiques Eric is one of those rare individuals who can share his knowledge in both an exciting and easily understandable way.
Born in Nelson in 1953 he worked in both engineering and for a firm of antique shippers. His love of antiques, inherited from his parents, proved helpful when he joined Bonham’s auctioneers in 1976. Working firstly as a porter in the ceramics department and becoming the head in 1981 his swift rise led to a full directorship in 1985.
As a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Eric Knowles has become a leading authority in the fields of European and Oriental ceramics, the glass of Tiffany and Lalique and 19th and 20th century decorative arts.
Eric has a become a regular face on our television screens, particularly on the Antiques Roadshow but also as regular host on Crimewatch UK, Selling the Family Silver, Going for a Song, The Great Antiques Hunt, The Antiques Inspectors, It’s a Gift’ You Can’t Take It With You and other appearances including the Generation Game and Countdown.
